Bends Like a Willow
Inspired by Native American materials with a fusion of French couture, the gown was created from my observations of the willow tree. Winds may blow down Lodge Pole Pine, Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Cotton Wood trees, and Quaken Aspen trees. Through all this wind the Willow Tree bends. It looses branches but not the tree. It's root system goes deep, it recovers and flourishes. To me, this is what a good woman knows. How you react to problems in a marriage is how you choose to respond. Overlooking the "small" issues because love is your bedrock in the end preserves and showers you with wisdom.
The dress is hand laced velvet soft deer hide. golden cowry shells flow from your heart and hand made willow leaves mixed in with fresh water potato pearls gather around your soul. The dress is corset laced in the back and trimmed in hand twisted fringe at your feet. The leather shawl is of the same deer hide, leaves and leather flowers scatter across the shawl, and trimming the entire edge are dyed the color golden summer grass, hand strung biat feathers.
